Our Philosophy
At Southern Rose Kennels, we only breed to improve the quality
of the Miniature Australian Shepherd. We strive for excellence in
temperament and intelligence, as well as breeding to the small side of the Breed
Standard. Southern Rose females normally range from 14.5" -15.5" Southern Rose
males normally range from 15.5"-16.5".
We have been Aussie enthusiasts since 1995 and we
have produced a Canadian champion and two others who are major pointed and soon
to be titled. All of our dogs have been screened for hip dysplasia (OFA) and
CERFed for eye deformities. All Southern Rose dogs can be traced to my "foundation pair".
Temperament, balance, movement, brains, beauty, and most importantly HEART. A dog that can be loved, cherished and trusted with the smallest enthusiast. These things are always considered in each and every dog produced. Only the best
representations are considered to be sold as breed/show quality. It is my firm belief that retaining the herding ability is a very important
part of my lineage, and true to the breed is the foundation to the thinking dog. Honesty and integrity are most important for a strong
future. Hiding faults or genetic problems will not be a part of Southern Rose (taping ears and scissoring). I will always do my best to
be honest and upfront with any inquiry. Since my love and infatuation with the breed, I have yet to see a perfect dog. Each has his/her own
contribution in each and every pup. Southern Rose Kennels at present is a hobby kennel, with the intent and goal of producing and preserving the
small, thinking, athletic, companion dog. Clicks and show ring ideals will not be of any part to Southern Rose's future.
Southern Rose has the right to refuse ownership if in any
way it is felt the dogs are to be used for wrongful breeding practices. Each and
every dog has been chosen selectively to strengthen or add to a important
ingredient that makes a Southern Rose puppy different from others. In no way is
it a goal to improve only to preserve old qualities that made the
Australian Shepherd /North American Miniature Australian Shepherd what it is.
I feel it a honor and responsibility to preserve and protect the dogs and their
lines that I have been entrusted. I also feel the need to express my respect and
appreciation to some of the breeders and fanciers that have shared information
and pictures as well as the old spirit of the Australian Shepherd.
As a breeder of both Australian Shepherds and North American Miniature
Australian Shepherds I feel it a need to express my feelings towards both
breeds. The Australian Shepherd was designed as a moderate/medium working dog
with trainable , workable mentalities. The North American Miniature Australian
Shepherd is a small companion and moderate mirror image to the Australian
Shepherd. In the 90's I was a member of a group of people that voted the
Miniature Aussie as a North American Shepherd. I, myself, in no way or have any
intention of threatening or entering in a joined union as a variety of the
Australian Shepherd. Although I have enjoined certain lines that meet the
criteria I research. This is the only direction I take in this way.
I have a deep respect for the early pioneers that made the Australian Shepherd
what it is. Trust among them is a deep consideration and appreciation of their
knowledge, wisdom and tireless journeys to the construction of their lineage. To
those both in the North American Miniature Australian world, and the Australian
Shepherd world, to those of you that have made an impact on me, my feeling
towards the dogs/lines, I thank you . Shared thoughts and emails as well as
encouragement are the most important ingredients of a friend. I consider dog
people to be of my best friends.
A good friend once told me: Taking time to reflect on how special the Australian
Shepherd is...
The Aussie is such a special dog, and I tribute it's greatness to people
like you...I know the care takers of the Aussie have made great sacrifices to
pursue a dream and goal..
To some of the most wonderful people I know!!
We love you and have a very Great Respect for Your hard Work, You Put
Forth Everyday!!
This letter was very special to me. As are all people that love our breeds. All
the best.
